Thailand visa for Mexicans: do you need one?

Yes. Since 15 September 2026, Mexicans need a visa to enter Thailand, whatever the purpose of the trip, and must apply online through the official Thai e-visa system before travelling. A tourist visa allows a stay of up to 60 days per entry. Apply well ahead, and fill in the free TDAC before you fly.

Visa rules for a tourist visit

Mexico is not on the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of countries with the 30-day tourist visa exemption, in force since 15 September 2026. The Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City (updated 2 October 2026) says that from that date, Mexican holders of ordinary passports must get a Thai visa to enter Thailand, regardless of the purpose of travel. This follows the end of the previous 60-day exemption and Thai Ministry of Interior notifications published on 31 August 2026.

The embassy says all visa applications must be submitted online through the official Thai e-visa system. The travel guide of Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) agrees that Mexican passport holders must apply for an electronic visa.

An older FAQ from the Embassy of Mexico in Thailand (last updated 17 February 2025) still says Mexicans can stay up to 60 days without a visa. That page is out of date: it predates the change, and the Thai embassy and the SRE travel guide both say a visa is now required.

How long you can stay

The Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City says the maximum stay on a tourist visa is 60 days per entry, and that a single-entry visa is generally valid for 90 days. You can ask for an extension of up to 30 days in person at an Immigration Bureau office.

If you overstay, the SRE travel guide says the fine is 500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht.

What to have ready

  • When to apply: the sources differ. The Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City says to apply at least one month before your planned date of entry. The SRE travel guide says processing takes about 5 to 10 business days.
  • Passport: the Thai embassy and the SRE both say it must be valid for at least 6 months on entry. The SRE adds that it should have more than two pages free of stamps.
  • Ticket and funds: the Thai embassy asks for a round-trip flight reservation and funds of at least the equivalent of 20,000 baht per person. The SRE asks for a copy of your air ticket and enough money for your stay.
  • Fees: the embassy refers to the official Thai e-visa website for the visa fee and says the fee is non-refundable. The TDAC arrival card is free.

The arrival form

You must also submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 3 days before you arrive, even with a visa. It is free on the official Thai Immigration website, and our separate TDAC page shows you how to fill it in.
