How to fill in the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC)

The Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) is the online arrival form run by Taiwan's National Immigration Agency (NIA). It replaced the paper arrival card and has been fully online since 1 Oct 2025. Most visitors entering Taiwan must submit it before immigration inspection, and it is free on the official site, twac.immigration.gov.tw.

Checked against official government sources on 27 October 2026.

What you need before you start

  • Your passport. You can type in your passport details or upload a photo of your passport's data page so the details are filled in for you.
  • An email address. Your confirmation is sent there.
  • A stable internet connection. The NIA suggests a fixed connection where possible.
  • The form can be completed in Chinese or English. Guidance for each field is shown in Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian.

Step by step

  1. 1Go to the official site, twac.immigration.gov.tw. Check that the address is exactly this before you enter anything.
  2. 2Enter your passport details by hand, or upload a photo of your passport's data page to import them automatically.
  3. 3Fill in the rest of the form. Travelling with others? One person can fill in the card for up to 16 travellers in total.
  4. 4Submit the form. You receive a confirmation email (a submission success certificate) at the address you registered.
  5. 5Need to change something? You can review and edit your submitted details online at any time.
  6. 6On arrival, you do not need to show the confirmation or the email. The officer scans your passport and the system retrieves your TWAC details.

When to submit

You can submit the TWAC up to 7 days before you arrive in Taiwan. Taiwan's National Immigration Agency (NIA) widened the window from 3 days to 7 days on 15 Jul 2026. Some foreign governments' travel advice (UK FCDO, Australia's Smartraveller and Canada's travel.gc.ca) still says 3 days, but the NIA's 7-day rule is the newer one.

The latest you can submit is before immigration inspection on arrival. Without a submitted TWAC, your entry cannot be processed.

Forgot to submit? Airlines and shipping companies show TWAC QR codes at airport and seaport check-in counters, and a TWAC QR code is also provided at the arrival airport or port so you can file there. Immigration officers at the airport can help you complete it.

Connection problems? Submit early, use a fixed internet connection where possible, try again later, or ask NIA staff at the airport. For help, call the Foreigners in Taiwan hotline: 1990 from within Taiwan or +886-800-001990 from abroad.

Cost

The TWAC is free. The NIA says "The TWAC application is completely free of charge."

The NIA also says "Any website that charges a fee is not an official government website." If you are asked to pay, do not pay. Visas, where needed, are a separate matter from the TWAC.

Families and groups

  • One person can fill in the TWAC for up to 16 travellers in total, for example a family or a tour group.

Who needs it and who doesn't

  • Foreign nationals entering Taiwan with a visitor visa or visa-exempt must submit.
  • Hong Kong and Macao residents holding a multiple-entry permit must submit.
  • Mainland Chinese residents holding a multiple-entry tourist permit must submit.
  • Nationals without household registration in Taiwan who do not hold a Resident Certificate must submit.
  • According to UK FCDO travel advice, you may be exempt if you hold a resident visa, an Alien Resident Card (ARC), an Alien Permanent Resident Card (APRC) or other permits issued by the Taiwanese authorities.

Fake websites: how to spot them

The only official site is twac.immigration.gov.tw, run by the National Immigration Agency of Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior under the .gov.tw domain. The NIA warns that some apps and online platforms claim they can scan your passport, and that using them may put your personal data at risk.

Taiwan's National Immigration Agency names these as unofficial websites: taiwan-card.com/zh/taiwan-card, arrivalcardtaiwan.org, taiwanarrivalcard.org, arrivalcardonline.com/taiwan, taiwanac.visasyst.com, ivisa.com, entertaiwan.com, get-twac.com, taiwan-twac.arrival.edocsllc.online, travelsmarttravelfast.com, twac.asia, taiwanonlinearrivalcard.com, twarrivalcard.com, apply.entry.com/taiwan, arrivalcardtw.com, ekcow.com, taiwanac.visatravel.jp and taiwan-twac.com (source: NIA warning, updated 21 Oct 2026).

  • If you find the form through a search engine, check that the address is exactly twac.immigration.gov.tw.
  • The TWAC is free. Any site that charges a fee is not official. If you are asked to pay, do not pay.
  • Do not use apps or platforms that offer to scan your passport for the TWAC unless they are the official site.
  • In Dec 2025 the NIA said its regular checks of all TWAC QR codes at airports and ports had found none leading to fake or paid sites. The NIA does not put up promotional banners at airports or ports.
  • The NIA says travellers with information or questions about such sites can email its Border Affairs Corps at tia@immigration.gov.tw.
