Visa rules for a tourist visit

France Diplomatie (updated 15 Sep 2026) says French nationals staying less than 30 days do not need to apply for a visa in advance: they get a paid visa on arrival (VOA), valid for 30 days and a single entry. France is on the eligible list on Indonesia's official e-VOA page, so you can also apply online before you travel. It is not on Indonesia's visa-free list published by the Ministry of Tourism.

France Diplomatie does not give the fee. Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration lists the visa on arrival and e-VOA at IDR 500,000, single entry and valid for a 30-day stay, with a visa validity of 90 days (no date shown on the page, checked 27 Oct 2026). Card payment fees may be added.

According to France Diplomatie, the visa on arrival is only for tourism, transit or family and social visits. Any other purpose, such as an internship, needs a visa issued for that purpose.

How long you can stay

The visa gives you 30 days. France Diplomatie says it can be extended once by 30 days with the Indonesian immigration services.

Indonesia's official e-VOA page says a longer stay needs an extension at an Immigration Office, and that you cannot get a new visa on arrival while you are in Indonesia. The Yogyakarta Immigration Office adds that the extension gives a total stay of 60 days, costs IDR 500,000 and can be requested from 14 days before your stay expires (page posted 24 Aug 2022, updated 4 Nov 2025).

What to have ready

  • A passport in very good condition, valid for more than 6 months from your date of entry (France Diplomatie). A French emergency passport is accepted if it meets the same validity rule.
  • Enough blank pages for the visa and the entry stamps. France Diplomatie gives no number, and we found no Indonesian official figure.
  • A return ticket or other proof that you will leave Indonesia, which France Diplomatie says is required. Indonesia's e-VOA page also advises carrying a printed return ticket because an immigration officer may ask for it.
  • The visa fee of IDR 500,000, paid online for the e-VOA or at the counter on arrival.
  • If you visit Bali, the Bali tourist levy of Rp 150,000 per person (about EUR 7.50, according to France Diplomatie), set by the Bali Provincial Government and paid cashless through Love Bali or at the counters at Bali's airport and port.

The arrival form

You also need All Indonesia, the official arrival declaration that combines immigration, customs and health questions. It is free and mandatory, you fill it in within the 72 hours before you arrive, and we have a separate page that walks you through it.

Recent and upcoming changes

  • The Bali tourist levy is set by Bali Provincial Regulation No. 2 of 2025, which amends Regulation No. 6 of 2023, and by Governor Regulation No. 25 of 2025.
