Visa rules for a tourist visit
The Government of Canada's travel advice (updated 13 Oct 2026) says Canadians need a visa for Indonesia and that a tourist visa can be obtained in advance or on arrival at select entry points. Canada is on the eligible list on Indonesia's official page for the visa on arrival (VOA) and e-VOA.
Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration lists the visa on arrival and e-VOA at IDR 500,000, single entry and valid for a 30-day stay, with a visa validity of 90 days (no date shown on the page, checked 27 Oct 2026).
How long you can stay
Canada's travel advice does not say how long a tourist can stay, so this figure comes from Indonesia: the official e-VOA page gives a 30-day stay.
To stay longer, you must apply for an extension at an Immigration Office in Indonesia. The Yogyakarta Immigration Office explains that the visa on arrival can be extended once while you are in the country, for another 30 days, giving a total stay of 60 days. The extension fee is IDR 500,000 and you can apply from 14 days before your current stay expires (page posted 24 Aug 2022, updated 4 Nov 2025).
What to have ready
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you enter Indonesia.
- At least one blank page, according to the Government of Canada. Other official sources ask for more: the UK and US advice says 2 blank pages, and we found no Indonesian official figure. Having 2 free pages avoids any problem.
- A round-trip or onward ticket. Canada's advice says you need one to get any type of visa, and Indonesia's e-VOA page advises carrying a printed return ticket.
- Proof of sufficient funds, which Canada's advice says you may be asked to show.
- The visa fee of IDR 500,000.
- If you visit Bali, the Bali tourist levy. Canada's advice mentions it without an amount; the Bali Provincial Government sets it at Rp 150,000 per person, once per trip, paid cashless through Love Bali or at the counters at Bali's airport and port.
The arrival form
You also need All Indonesia, the official arrival declaration that combines immigration, customs and health questions. It is free and mandatory, you fill it in within the 72 hours before you arrive, and we have a separate page that walks you through it.
Recent and upcoming changes
- The Government of Canada notes that Indonesian airports are introducing "Seamless Corridors" with biometric enrolment. It gives no date.
- The Bali tourist levy is set by Bali Provincial Regulation No. 2 of 2025, which amends Regulation No. 6 of 2023, and by Governor Regulation No. 25 of 2025.
